Pilgrim Surf + Supply
4 Amagansett Square, Amagansett NY 11930 631-267-3598
Pilgrim’s flagship shop is located in Brooklyn NY – approximately 6,700 miles and 14 hours away, assuming you are flying from Jinnan Shibuya-Ku, Tokyo, Japan. Why does that matter? Well, that’s the location of Pilgrim Tokyo, their third store. Visit their website – although you may not read Japanese, the photography is absolutely beautiful.
This quote from the Tokyo Shop sheds light on surfing culture and Pilgrim’s Brand – the shop follows the concept of ‘a dual life that combines both nature and urban,’ and proposes a lifestyle of outdoor activities with a focus on surf, filtered through the scope of American East Coast culture.
Pilgrim’s Radio Page has some treats to be enjoyed. Listen to the interview with the co-creator of John from Cincinnati Kem Nunn, it’s titled ‘Wrestling Elephants.’ There are play-lists and stories that enhance the surf lifestyle.
The home of Pilgrim’s second store is just around the corner, Pilgrim Surf + Supply is located in Amagansett Square. There is a culture here that is more than the clothes and boutique items. Have a look at the website’s Features Page, it is a beautiful adventure about the story of surfing yesterday and today! The hearts and souls behind Pilgrim care deeply about the lifestyle of surfing.
Grain Surfboards

‘Make mine a Glenmorangie neat, water back!’
I watched in fascination and astonishment as the surfer viewed each arriving wave wondering when the perfect one might arrive. The one-of-a-kind journey he was seeking would be complemented by a distinctly one-of-a-kind surfboard. Glenmorangie has been in the whiskey business for over 175 years; their American white oak casks sit aging scotch for 10 years as they await their next purpose. The Beyond the Cask Project is a Glenmorangie partnership founded in wood, heritage and craftsmanship. A limited number of surfboards are sourced from repurposed casks that become living works of art. They are meant to be appreciated for many more generations.
I choose to tell this tale as it well reflects what I believe Grain is about, I believe the Crew at Grain – they dedicate themselves to the following . . .
- Having Passion – to be honest, to have worth, giving value
- The Pursuit of Talent – to work at being better every day
- About Character – having integrity, sharing your knowledge
Workshops at Grain Surfboards are offered in several varieties from Skateboards to A Surfboard Builder’s Fantasy Camp. You can even book a Traveling Workshop in the ‘Grains Mobile Classroom’!
Lagniappe . . . Three Bits of Surf Stuff
SHAPERS: Often called the guardians of surfing.
They are the makers who prove their very own ‘wave physics’ in the surf. The dance of balance, linking gravity and buoyancy. Only in the surf can they perfect their craft – as gravity forces them downward and the board launches them skyward, only then do they feel the perfection of their craftsmanship.
4Ocean – Andrew and Alex’s surf trip wins the distinction of being the longest in this surf story. From New York to Bali in Indonesia is a bit over 10,000 miles, and the ensuing project has removed over 4 million pounds of trash from the oceans. This project is responsible for the 4Ocean Bracelet that supplies the funding to clean the world’s oceans. This is the gift that everyone on the East End wants to give as well as receive, Make mine the Manatee Bracelet!
