We just released our new Summer Menu at the Mill House and that means it’s time to research the Autumn~Winter edition. My usual method, take several dozen cook books, scatter them about our dining room table. For the next few weeks I will read, take paperless notes & pictures with Evernote. I am now able to digitally search the contents of my cook book library, 1,000 books some 40 years old, with Eat Your Books! My iPad heats up as I scan the websites of Saveur Edible Epicurious Food & Wine then I look at my RSS feeds from Eater Thrillist Food Arts Zagats & Katie all neatly tucked into Feedly! I always find a few new cookbooks whether online at Jessica’s Biscuit or Kitchen Arts & Letters, then on to the village bookstores Book Hampton Harpers Books & Glenn Horowitz Bookseller!
So print still matters, more important than ever,
look at what Kaitlyn Goalen has to say at Eatocracy maybe buy something real cool the Short Stacked Editions! Then look at how publishing is changing from Seth Godin at his newest venture The Domino Project! I Vividly remember working at the NYC Library looking through microfiche back in the 80’s!
So the art of gathering food & beverage intelligence has never been better. A virtual carousel of old and new, print, local, digital & hybrid. All indispensable media dramatically creating a new metric. Stunning paper, wonderful book stores, online availability of everything and the wizard of technology! Maybe I will write that cookbook…
