Design is all about balance. The quality of well-chosen raw materials must be complemented by consistent excellence in work performed.
A well-polished elegance must be apparent in every facet of the final design. Clean, clear lines; vivid colors; inviting textures; the artist’s vision must instill curiosity and delight.

John Varvatos
54 Newtown Lane, East Hampton NY 631-324-4440
John Varvatos was born in Detroit and grew up in Michigan. These beginnings took him on a trip that defined menswear for Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and pushed Varvatos to launch his own label. His first major success was in 1992 featuring Mark Wahlberg and a pair of long johns that had been cut up. Not only did John start his own Record Label, he was obsessed with Rock & Roll, allowing the music to influence his clothing design. His name appears next to The Roots, Iggy Pop, Alice Cooper, Ringo Starr and Dave Matthews. John’s Philanthropic endeavors support the Save The Music Foundation and the David Lynch Foundation.
The Detroit John Varvatos Store will be a part of the neighborhood where Motown, Rock & Roll, Blues, Jazz and Punk melted together creating a bit of music history. BTW . . . the JV NYC Store is located in the old CBGB’s building. You can also catch John on his Sirius Radio Show. A blend of Fashion and Music can be found here at The World of JV! At the Grammy Awards publications like GQ and Esquire make note of the top names in music wearing JV Fashions. If you happen to be attending a live show in The Hamptons you would be in good company shopping at John Varvatos before you go.
My favorite look is found on the Style & Substance pages . . . UK Chef Jackson Boxer & JV!
My intention is to look that cool in the kitchen!
“The more effort we put into our craft, the longer it endures.
Even if, in the case of food, it’s simply as a memory.”
Orlebar Brown
55 Newtown Lane, East Hampton NY 631-324-3960
Adam Brown founded the brand that wears his name in 2007 as a result of a trip to celebrate his friend’s 40th birthday. His story is well told, a holiday in the making, fashion celebrating a rebirth. Something that would be truly new, began like this . . .
“Around the pool, the women in the group looked great, but the men did not.
All were wearing brightly patterned, baggy boxer short styles, briefs or board shorts.
The idea for Orlebar Brown became clear when, from sitting by the pool, we had to change to have lunch in the bar.”
The beginnings of the OB resort collection might best be found in the Slim Aarons pictures of the Riviera and Palm Beach in their most sophisticated days as world travel destinations. Of course – the Photographer in Adam Brown would be influenced by the work of Slim Aarons.
Places, people and travel create memories and of course – the clothing that accompanies the trip matters, have a look at the OB Club! Travel with class and the simplicity of true style.
James Perse
56 Newtown Lane, East Hampton NY 631-907-9270
James Perse was born and raised in LA. Hockey rinks, beaches and the innovative LA boutique Maxfield sculpted his obsession with the quality of design. Ever try to find a baseball cap that possessed a bit of design excellence, proper color, materials? A hat you were proud to wear and thrilled to gift? I have been there back in the day, designing and catering to Wall Street Firms. A good hat was all but impossible to find! That was back in 1991 – t-shirts were next, followed by a full line of high-quality fashion collections.
From that point, it was full speed ahead for the JP Brand! Everything for the well designed home, with collections featuring Baja, Malibu and for ’19 a Flagship store simply named Robertson. A testament to the minimalist architecture influenced by warm west-coast indoor-outdoor living. There seem to be no limits within the JP Architecture Brand, a Residential Design division allows you to purchase a fully designed and furnished home. Malibu and Point Dume are currently in the works.
James has applied this visionary approach in every step of defining and developing the brand. And that vision certainly has no limits as is evidenced by the JP ‘Limited Edition’ Collection: longboards, surfboards, paddleboards, skateboards, city & beach cruisers.
Gloria Jewel
58 Newtown Lane, East Hampton NY 631-604-2595
136 Main Street, Amagansett, NY, 11930 631-907-4095
2486 Main Street, Bridgehampton, NY, 11932 631-613-6034
One might call Megan Leary the honestly organic ‘East End’ designer brand. Having two grandmothers ‘Gloria and Jewel’ – each with a different voice and sense of fashion – left Megan with a conundrum: her desire to make both of her grandmothers proud of her efforts and represent their different takes on fashion makes her brand unique. There needed to be something for everyone at her boutiques – her own GJ Brand, as well those of the many designers GJ features.
Megan has learned the essential skill of listening to her clients, local and summer alike. She knows what makes them happy, all of them. She is committed to finding something unique to make them all smile – each and every time they walk into one of her stores.

Stevensons Toys & Games
66 Newtown Lane, East Hampton NY 631-527-7222
69 Jobs Lane, Southampton, NY 631-283-2111
I have come to the conclusion that toy stores are built for the adults. We take great pride in reaching adulthood and doing adult-type stuff. Apparently, there is some magic afoot because this is the age when we most enjoy a store filled with toys of every kind imaginable.
That said, welcome to Stevenson’s Toys! Toys from around the world, some fun, some designed to challenge the brain. Some will bring back childhood memories, others will amaze you at the inventiveness of today’s toymakers! Rest assured they will all provide hours of entertainment. Stevenson’s makes gift giving easy – just provide them with the age of the giftee and a budget they will become your secret shoppers. They are able to maintain a Gift Registry and offer Gift Cards.
A bit of history . . . Before there was a Stevenson’s, there was Lillywhite’s, a sporting goods/toy/bicycle store that was started in 1895.
When Roy and Polly Stevenson moved to Southampton, they fell in love with Lillywhite’s. The great selection of unusual toys, the ambiance of the historic building, and the personal touch provided by Susan Lillywhite, the third-generation owner, made Lillywhite’s their favorite toy store. When they heard Susan was thinking of selling the store, Roy and Polly decided it would be fun to buy it and see if they could combine Lillywhite’s classic tradition with a fresh, new feel.
Stevenson’s is ‘Today’s classic toy store!’
