Gary continues his exploration of the shopping experience in East Hampton Village. Who knew there were so many great shops within walking distance of the Mill House Inn?
Club Monaco
17 Newtown Lane, East Hampton NY 631-324-5348
A silk shirt, blazer, and pants. Shoes, jewelry, a leather purse, and accessories – all available from one shop. They pair perfectly for work or a dinner meeting. Soften up a cool evening with a pair of distressed indigo wash jeans and a cozy wool sweater. One store that feels like several specialty shops each dedicated to your next adventure.
“Club Monaco has been recognized by fashion influencers for its thoughtfully designed, purposeful collections featuring relevant, wearable pieces, fine fabrics, and exceptional fits.” This seems to say it all about a brand that feels like it was created just for you.
Tenet
21 Newtown Lane, East Hampton NY 631-527-5848
Tenant curates items from well established and emerging designers to build a brand that feels as if it was “made for you.” From hand-made surfboards to art design pieces – they all want to come home with you. Tenant also has a store at 91 Main Street in Southampton.
Eileen Fisher
26 Newtown Lane, East Hampton NY 11937 631-324-4111
The clothes of Eileen Fisher are well described by words like simple and tasteful and colors like black and gray come to mind along with images of women of a certain age and class. This is beautifully shown in a collection of EF Videos.
The philosophy of Eileen Fisher is well represented by this piece taken from an old company brochure titled “Simply—to Be Ourselves.”
“The underlying philosophy of our design—no constraints, freedom of expression—extends to the company itself, which is run in a loosely structured manner that allows for an open exchange of ideas. Every employee is encouraged to give input to any area, no matter their position or expertise. The individual is valued for the total picture of who they are and what they can contribute.” More from an article in the New Yorker.
Simplicity, sustainability, and timeless design describe Eileen Fisher. They are a company dedicated to environmentally responsible practices from giving to green causes to maintaining a responsible supply chain.
Breezin’ Up
37 Newtown Lane, East Hampton NY 11937 631-329-9370
Breezin’ Up was founded in one of my old haunts, Beach Haven NJ, in 1984. Faded comfortable fabrics that felt as if you had owned them forever. Bringing back memories from summers spent at the beach so long ago.
Made and designed in America is true at Breezin’ Up. Additionally, they still use many of the same partners they had in the 1980s. It’s difficult to leave the Hamptons without a shirt or hoodie embossed with the name East Hampton. I would suggest purchasing a few as gifts – they are the most requested item by our guests after they have departed the Hamptons. Of course, you can call any Breezin’ Up store and they will ship you that shirt you forgot to buy.
Brunello Cucinelli
39 Newtown Lane, East Hampton NY 631-324-3400
Brunello Cucinelli’s website tells a beautiful story best viewed on their series of Inspiration Pages on their website. You are taken on a journey described by the title of each page. From ‘Natural Elegance‘ to ‘Sartoria Solomeo‘ to ‘Woodland Spirit,’ each with their own elegance. Register with BC to create an online account and take advantage of the concierge services they offer. Pick up at the store of your choice. Or just walk in the door and let the magic happen. Classic style, beautiful design, warm fabrics and leathers just waiting for you.
Tory Burch
47 Newtown Lane, East Hampton, NY 11937 631-907-9150
What builds a lifestyle brand? Why does an individual decide to share everything they love with everyone else. Becoming a public figure carries with it a responsibility, the willingness to follow through. With her beginnings working for Ralph Lauren and Vera Wang, Tory was well situated to start her small boutique in Nolita. That was 2004 and 200 boutiques ago. In 2009, The Tory Burch Foundation was launched and 2015 saw the Torry Sport Collection take flight.
The brand is a little bit about everything, well maybe a whole lot about all kinds of stuff. Forbes lists Tory Burch as the 73rd most influential and powerful woman in the world. And her brand has made its mark in every area of the lifestyle arena, assuring her followers of the very best in quality and fashion sense. Clothing, accessories, fragrances, home, sportswear and one more thing: the Tory Burch Foundation has a four-point plan for allowing women in business to succeed in a big way. They work to provide entrepreneurial education, mentoring, networking opportunities and access to funding!
The Foundation’s logo, a sunflower, is based on a pendant Tory’s father had made for her mother and then passed down to her. It is inscribed with the French saying: “Je t’aime un peu, beaucoup, passionnément,” which loosely translates as, “I love you a little, a lot, passionately.”
Peserico
48 Newtown Lane, East Hampton NY 631-324-3521
‘It’s not just my company, it’s my family and my life.’
Mary Peserico, founder of the Peserico brand
The quality of the workmanship tells the whole story. Since 1962, Peserico has been synonymous with Italian tailoring
Peserico embodies the passion for high couture and great manufacturing tradition in the region of Veneto. The company was created in 1962 by Maria Peserico in Cornedo Vicentino, in the province of Vicenza, as a small workshop specializing in pants for women.
In the 80s distribution started expanding abroad. The constant growth and the international success lead Peserico to expand its creative universe: in the 90s the collections grew to cover the total look, and were produced exclusively in Italy.
Shoe-Inn
52 Newtown Lane East Hampton NY 631-329-4500
The Shoe-Inn may be the ultimate shoe store, actually nine stores and two outrageous sales every year, as well as a fantastic website. Since the 1940s, this family run business has influenced trends in shoe styles across the country. The Shoe-Inn team travels to Italy twice a year to source shoes, materials as well as influencing new shoe styles. The twice a year sales are not to be missed, the NYC warehouse sale and the Hamptons event (in August) both feature the very best ‘top brands and styles shoes‘ at up to 70% savings.
Plan in advance for the Shoe-Inn Shoe Sale. We will let you know the dates as soon as they are posted. It is the only shoe shopping event you need to attend for the whole year!
